US, EU Negotiating Terms To Extend Truce On Steel, Aluminum Trade

Bloomberg reports the US and EU are negotiating terms “to extend a truce on steel and aluminum trade to avoid the possible return of billions of dollars in tariffs on transatlantic commerce, as talks on a more lasting agreement this year have stalled.” The Biden Administration “has proposed prolonging the status quo until the end of 2025 – well clear of the US presidential elections in November next year – to hammer out a permanent deal. The EU wants a commitment to fixing what it argues is an imbalance in the current arrangement before agreeing to an extension, according to people familiar with the matter.”

Major Stock Indices Close Lower, But Are Up About 2% For The Week

CNBC reports that the Dow Jones Industrial Average “closed lower on Thursday, although all three major indices notched weekly gains. The 30-stock index slid 46 points, or 0.13%, to close at 34,945.57.” The S&P 500 “added 0.12% to finish the session at 4,508.24, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.07% to 14,113.67.” CNBC adds, “Even as November’s rally paused, stocks are well on their way toward winning weeks, with the three indexes up roughly 2% each for the period.”
