US, EU Negotiating Terms To Extend Truce On Steel, Aluminum Trade

Bloomberg reports the US and EU are negotiating terms ā€œto extend a truce on steel and aluminum trade to avoid the possible return of billions of dollars in tariffs on transatlantic commerce, as talks on a more lasting agreement this year have stalled.ā€ The Biden Administration ā€œhas proposed prolonging the status quo until the end of 2025 ā€“ well clear of the US presidential elections in November next year ā€“ to hammer out a permanent deal. The EU wants a commitment to fixing what it argues is an imbalance in the current arrangement before agreeing to an extension, according to people familiar with the matter.ā€

Major Stock Indices Close Lower, But Are Up About 2% For The Week

CNBC reports that the Dow Jones Industrial Average ā€œclosed lower on Thursday, although all three major indices notched weekly gains. The 30-stock index slid 46 points, or 0.13%, to close at 34,945.57.ā€ The S&P 500 ā€œadded 0.12% to finish the session at 4,508.24, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.07% to 14,113.67.ā€ CNBC adds, ā€œEven as Novemberā€™s rally paused, stocks are well on their way toward winning weeks, with the three indexes up roughly 2% each for the period.ā€
