Read More LEADING ECONOMIC AND POLICY NEWSPresident Biden Budget Includes Tax Cuts For Families, Tax Hikes For The Rich And CorporationsThe AP reports that on Monday, President Biden āreleased a budget proposal aimed at getting votersā attention: It would offer tax breaks for families, lower health care costs, smaller deficits and higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations.ā The AP adds, āUnlikely to pass the House and Senate to become law, the proposal for fiscal 2025 is an election year blueprint about what the future could hold if Biden and enough of his fellow Democrats win in November.ā According to the AP, āIf the Biden budget became law, deficits could be pruned $3 trillion over a decade.ā The AP goes on to report that Biden was in Manchester, New Hampshire on Monday, and said, āIām here in New Hampshire to talk about the budget I released today that would, I think, help in a big way.ā The New York Times says, āOverall, Mr. Biden is proposing $5 trillion in additional taxes on corporations and high earners over the next decade.ā The Washington Post, Reuters, CNBC, Politico, and other sources also report. Februaryās CPI Data Will Not Push The Federal Reserve To Cut RatesBloomberg reports a monthly report on US consumer price inflation set to be released on Tuesday is unlikely to convince Federal Reserve policymakers its safe to start lowering interest rates, according to a new analysis by Bloomberg Economics. In a note released Monday, Bloomberg economists Anna Wong and Stuart Paul forecast that core consumer price index (CPI), excluding food and energy, probably grew 0.3% in February. They also estimate that core CPI rose 3.7% on a year-over-year basis, which would be the slowest growth since April 2021. Federal Judge Blocks New NLRB Rule Making It Easier For Workers To OrganizeThe AP reports that āa federal judge in Texas has blocked a new rule by the National Labor Relations Board that would have made it easier for millions of workers to form unions at big companies.ā According to the AP, āUnder the current NLRB rule, which was passed by a Republican-dominated board in 2020, a company like McDonaldās isnāt considered a joint employer of most of its workers since they are directly employed by franchisees. The new rule would have expanded that definition to say companies may be considered joint employers if they have the ability to control ā directly or indirectly ā at least one condition of employment,ā including āwages and benefits, hours and scheduling, the assignment of duties, work rules and hiring.ā US District Court Judge J. Campbell Barker āconcluded that the NLRBās new rule...was āarbitrary and capriciousā in regard to how it would change the existing rule.ā S&P 500, Nasdaq Both Close LowerCNBC reports that both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite āclosed lower on Monday. ... The broad S&P 500 and technology-heavy Nasdaq closed 0.1% and 0.4% lower, respectively.
