Collapse Of Baltimore’s Key Bridge Forces Shippers And Truckers To Find Alternate Routes

The New York Times reports on the effort to route shipping around Baltimore with the collapse of the Key bridge, which “closed most of the Port of Baltimore, which last year handled 1.3 million tons of farm and construction machinery and 850,000 cars and light trucks.” According to the Times, “the trucking industry is under immense stress with executives saying they are struggling to get drivers and loads to where they are needed on time and without losing money.”

Meanwhile, Reuters reports Danish shipping group Maersk said on Wednesday that the “Baltimore port’s alternate shipping channels are not deep enough to accommodate the oceangoing container vessels.”

NYTimes Columnist: Second Biden Term Will Bring “More Of The Same” Economic Policies

Peter Coy writes at the New York Times that a second term for President Biden would involve “more of the same” economic policy. He argues that the economy is “already good by standard measures...it’s just that many voters don’t see it that way.” He adds that “Biden’s plan continues to adopt the priorities of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party,” including the claim “that corporate greed is a major factor in high inflation.”
