Bipartisan LAKES Act Introduced In The House

Representatives Bruce Westerman (R-AR-04), Steve Womack (R-AR-03), and Jared Huffman (D-CA-02), recently introduced the Lake Access Keeping Economies Strong (LAKES) Act (H.R. 6906). This bipartisan, bicameral bill ā€“ companion to legislation introduced in 2023 by Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Martin Heinrich (D-NV) ā€“ addresses several priority areas for the recreational boating and fishing industry. The legislation would improve outdoor recreation facilities in U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)-managed areas, provide new opportunities for public-private investments, and give local districts more flexibility to reinvest their resources. USACE is one of the largest federal outdoor recreation providers in the nation ā€“ second in visitation to the National Park Service (NPS) and the leading provider of water based outdoor recreation activities in the U.S. Read More

SpaceX Sues NLRB Over Complaint, Alleges Agencyā€™s Structure Unconstitutional

Bloomberg reports SpaceX sued the NLRB on Thursday, ā€œarguing that a complaint against the Elon Musk-led company for firing employees should be put on hold because the agencyā€™s structure is unconstitutional.ā€ The response ā€œcomes after National Labor Relations Board prosecutors filed a formal complaint against SpaceX, accusing the space transportation company of illegally firing eight employees over an internal letter that sharply criticized Musk.ā€

Reuters reports the NLRB is alleging SpaceX ā€œviolated federal labor law by firing eight workers in 2022 for signing onto the letter, which accused Musk of making sexist comments that went against company policies.ā€ That case is set to be heard by an administrative judge as well as a five-member board. SpaceX ā€œclaims that because federal law only allows board members and administrative judges to be removed for cause, and not at will, the NLRBā€™s structure is unconstitutional.ā€ Politico and the Wall Street Journal provide similar coverage.
