Treasury Dept. Says Just 19 EVs Now Qualify For Tax Credits

Reuters reports the Treasury Department on Monday announced that as a result of new guidelines that took effect with the start of the new year, just 19 electric vehicles now qualify for tax credits, down from 43 models. EVs that no longer qualify for the tax credits include ā€œthe Nissan Leaf, Tesla Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive, some Tesla Model 3s and Chevrolet Blazer EV, the U.S. Treasury said,ā€ as well as ā€œthe Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive, BMW X5 xDrive50e, Audi Q5 PHEV 55, Cadillac Lyriq and Ford E-Transit.ā€ Meanwhile, Bloomberg says EVs ā€œstill eligible for the consumer credit are the Model Y by Tesla Inc., Rivian Automotive Inc.ā€™s R1T pickup truck, Stellantis NVā€™s Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Ford Motor Co.ā€™s F-150 Lightning pickup truck.ā€ Bloomberg says the limits ā€œwere included in President Joe Bidenā€™s signature climate law at the behest of Senator Joe Manchin, the West Virginia Democrat who provided the pivotal vote on the Inflation Reduction Act.ā€

Advocate Suggests Biden Should Not Have Awarded $3.1B To California For High-Speed Rail Project

Wendell Cox, a senior fellow with the Committee to Unleash Prosperity and principal of public-policy and transportation research firm Demographia, suggested in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that the White House should not have awarded $3.1 billion to the California High-Speed Rail project that is already heavily over budget and behind schedule. Cox said California should have instead looked to how Florida built a new rail system between Orlando and Miami using only private financing.

Analysts, Investors Optimistic For Economy In 2024

Under the headline ā€œ5 Reasons To Be Optimistic About The 2024 Economy,ā€ CNN says while ā€œmany feared 2023 would be the year of recession,ā€ it instead displayed ā€œremarkable resilience,ā€ and now ā€œappears to be enjoying the soft landing many argued was nearly impossible.ā€ CNN quotes several economists optimistic about the state of the US economy in 2024 while the Wall Street Journal highlights a similar sentiment among investors.
