The four-week moving average, which irons out week-to-week volatility, “was little changed at 212,000 last week, the lowest since late October.” Reuters says the numbers show “the labor market continues to cool in the year’s fourth quarter.” SEC Continues Drawn-Out Push To Seek Authority Over Cryptocurrency RegulationThe Wall Street Journal heralds the upcoming seventh year of the SEC’s “forever war” to regulate cryptocurrency trading, with “no end in sight” for the multiple ongoing legal battles SEC officials are waging over the classification and regulation of digital currencies. Private Auditors Fail To Stem Tide Of Rising Child Labor ViolationsA New York Times investigation found that “private audits” used to assess labor conditions at production facilities “have consistently missed child labor,” as “children were overlooked by auditors who were moving quickly, leaving early or simply not sent to the part of the supply chain where minors were working.” According to the Times, auditors “said they are encouraged to deliver findings in the mildest way possible as they navigate pressure from three different sources: the independent auditing firms that pay their salaries; corporations...that require inspections at their suppliers; and the suppliers themselves, which usually must arrange and pay for the audits.” Meanwhile, Labor Department staffing shortfalls mean that “for many factories, a private inspection is the only one they will ever get.” Previous Top Stories | |||||||||||
